Treatment and management of Achilles Tendinopathy in Eaglemont, Ivanhoe and surrounds.

Achilles Tendinopathy is a condition that causes pain, stiffness and a loss of strength in the Achilles tendon of the foot. It is associated with overuse and is due to the inability of the tendon to adapt to its current work load quickly enough.

The area of pain can vary between the heel (insertional) or in the middle of the tendon (mid portion). Anyone can experience tendon pain however the people who are most likely affected by this condition are runners and those who perform the same repetitive motions over and over again either in their jobs, sports or daily activities.

To prevent tendon related pain and injury it is important that any changes or increase in training loads are made slowly. It is also important to avoid stretching the Achilles itself as this can aggravate the condition, so chatting with one of our osteopath about do’s and don’ts is essential.
